TACIS
Tactical Information System
Complete situational awareness and security
Military forces today face an increasing range of missions
and diverse tactical scenarios. Operation needs vary
greatly, as does the scale of operations. In order to
address military and security challenges, Navielektro has
developed a solution that provides a common platform
for situational awareness, surveillance, command
and control as well as voice applications. Our Tactical
Information System (TACIS) with associated backend
services fulfills a wide range of
requirements ranging from Naval, Joint, Air and
Army. TACIS is extendable, making it possible to add
additional, branch-specific components
by Navielektro or third party developers.
TACIS is a comprehensive solution that covers a myriad of
bases with operational flexibility in mind. Customers can
use the same, single solution for a wide variety of solutions
ranging from mission planning and surveillance as well
as for tactical-, targeting-, intelligence- and federated
information exchange activities.
Observe, Orient, Decide, Act
All of the data collected by TACIS (including AIS track data, radar data, weather data and manual data ) is fused into a UCOP (User-defined Common Operational Picture). Operators are presented with a single, comprehensive picture of the area of operations. The UCOP concept enables the operator to define rules regarding what information is considered important, effectively helping operators to assess available mission resources. TACIS provides the operator with a set of advanced, automated tools that analyze data and alert the operator regarding various safety and security related conflicts that may arise within the situation picture, aiding in the OODA loop.
SUPPORTED MISSIONS
- Patrol and response, including interdiction, maritime patrol and anti-piracy
- Autonomous defense against air threats
- Border control and securing economic interests
- Allied or coalition interoperability
- Civil authority assistance
- Peace support
- Surface warfare
- Surface contact detection, identification and interception
Exchange information, safely and securely
TACIS has been developed with strong emphasis on NEC (Network Enabled Capability). As NEC cannot be achieved without interoperability, our solution offers a large number of interfaces that enable the system to exchange data with other systems – may they be Security, Safety or Allied forces.
The system supports a very wide variety of information exchange interfaces, such as military data links, NATO TIDE and numerous legacy military information exchange mechanisms. TACIS also supports Cursor on Target -based information sharing for Joint Fire coordination and control.

Share tactical data
TACIS allows users to draw different shapes and symbols on the chart. The system provides several chart overlays for military use, such as the NATO Vector Graphics (NVG) overlay that is based upon the NVG 1.5 standard. Using TACIS, users can create, import, export, enable and disable tactical overlays, sharing them with other users.

Tracking and targeting
TACIS supports Blue force tracking and NATO Friendly Force Identification (NFFI). NFFI allows users to exchange track information between NATO and national force tracking systems. TACIS also enables cost-effective targeting capabilities from dismounted units, by means of laser rangefinders and low-bandwidth radio solutions. Thanks to fire coordination and tasking capabilities, the system can be used in a wide variety of fire solutions.
Sensor and data link integration
TACIS may be integrated to virtually any kind of sensors and systems, such as scanning rotating radars, FM-CW ground surveillance radars, direction finding systems, under water surveillance systems, maritime AIS, ASTERIX, XML, NMEA, Fleet Management or other similar systems. The system is capable of presenting RMP (Recognized Maritime Picture), ASP (Air Situation Picture) as well as WASP (Wide Area Situation Picture) and COP (Common Operational Picture). In addition, the track fusion system is capable of sensor fusion and sensor management-message -based air situation picture, and a range of military data links.
